Sharon Taberski Children Reading, Writing and Talking their Way to Comprehension Grades 1-4 April 5, 2008
In order to better comprehend text, children need opportunities to engage in real reading, writing, and talking experiences, and within that context, expand their vocabulary, develop fluency, learn phonics in meaningful ways, and acquire lots of background knowledge to bring to text. This workshop will examine ways to do this within the comprehensive literacy framework.
Sharon Taberski was a classroom teacher for 27 years, and is currently a full-time literacy consultant. Sharon is the author of On Solid Ground (Heinemann), a widely acclaimed account of strategies for teaching reading in the primary grades. She is also the author of the video series, A Close-Up Look at Teaching Reading (Heinemann). Sharon is working on a new book for Heinemann on comprehension instruction in Grades K-5. |
