Kathy will share ideas about a different vision of reading centers that have been developed and nurtured within the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project and implemented in classrooms around the country. Kathy will offer compelling reasons for implementing this model, and suggest ways to launch and plan instruction. She will also focus on how to strengthen students' book talks in ways that will improve their comprehension.
Kathy Collins taught at PS 321 in Brooklyn before rejoining the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. Kathy consults with schools and speaks at conferences around the country. She is the author of Growing Readers: Units of Study for Primary Classrooms (Stenhouse), and co-author with Lucy Calkins of parts of Resources for Teaching Writing, Units of Study for Teaching Writing Grades 3-5 (Heinemann).
